Sheriff requests a revision of the Schedule of Approved Capital Assets in the Final Budget for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 in the amount of $8,366 with no change to total appropriations to purchase a Dual Sport Motorcycle for the Off-Highway Enforcement Team.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In July 2020, Sheriff's Office Off-Highway Enforcement team lost one off-highway motorcycle due to engine failure. The motorcycle was too costly to repair, so the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Division of California State Parks, who owns the motorcycle for use by the Sheriff's Office, authorized it to be scrapped. Sheriff's Office current grant award from the OHV Recreation Division approves and reimburses the cost to purchase one off-highway motorcycle. Today's action authorizes the purchase of one off-highway motorcycle and to establish it as a capital asset.

Discretionary Justification: Sheriff's Office needs to replace one OHV motorcycle that was unserviceable and scrapped. It has been determined that it is more cost effective to replace the motorcycle rather than repair it. The cost of the motorcycle is fully covered by the Sheriff's Office OHV Grant.
Is the general fund affected? No
Future fiscal impact: Any future costs associated with the service and maintenance of the OHV motorcycle will be budgeted accordingly in future fiscal years.
Consequences if not approved: If today's action is not approved, Sheriff's Office will not purchase an off-highway motorcycle, leaving the OHV Team without a full complement of patrol vehicles.
