BACKGROUND
On March 8, 2024, the Napa County Library received a check from the California State Library in the amount of $38,887 for the CLLS ESL program. Per the CLLS grant terms, the Board must grant the authority to enter into an agreement, therefore the Director of Library Services and Community Outreach is requesting authorization to accept funds from the CLLS ESL grant program.
Participating ESL libraries provide free adult and family literacy services for English language learners. ESL learners will focus on the listening comprehension and speaking skills, as well as basic math, writing and reading skills needed to participate in work, family life, and their communities. Tutoring will be provided in one-to-one and small-group sessions that are tailored to each learner's goals and aspirations. The funds will support programs, projects, services, and supplies offered to the community for literacy programs at the Napa County Library.
