EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Today's action authorizes an agreement with the Salvation Army for the provision of meals for inmates housed within Department of Corrections facilities in the event county facilities and/or staff are rendered incapable of producing inmate meals due to emergencies such as public safety power outages, health-related pandemic staffing shortages, earthquake, and other natural disasters. The Salvation Army will provide meals at a cost of $4 each for a maximum of $50,000 per fiscal year.

Discretionary Justification:
The Department of Corrections is required to provide meals to inmates housed within the Department of Corrections facilities. This is the most cost-effective way to continue to provide meal services to inmates in the event county facilities become unable to provide inmate meals in the case of an emergency.

Yes
Future fiscal impact:
This agreement expires on June 30, 2024. Appropriations will be budgeted accordingly in future fiscal years.
Consequences if not approved:
If this item is not approved, staff will need to identify an alternate plan for providing meals to inmates at the Jail in the case of an emergency.
