BACKGROUND
Home Safe is a California Department of Social Services (CDSS) program designed to prevent or address homelessness to support the safety and housing stability of individuals involved in the APS program, individuals involved in the APS intake process, or who may appear eligible for APS and who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. HHSA applied for and received Home Safe grant funds starting in 2022. These funds are available for counties only through Fiscal Year 2024-2025.
HHSA has used the funds to provide a wide range of supports to help APS involved clients maintain suitable housing, and one aspect of that support has included a contract with Share the Care (STC). STC is local organization that is a community partner of HHSA with a long history of providing services that support this population's ability to live safely and independently. The range of supports provided by Share the Care include, among other things, repair or replacement of essential appliances, plumbing and electrical repair, the provision of household goods, advocacy with utility companies, and decluttering services.
