RECOMMENDATION
title

[4/5 vote required]
body
BACKGROUND
A review of the Animal Shelter operations budget shows that expenditures may exceed approved appropriations by the end of the fiscal year for salaries/benefits and for services/supplies. Since mid-year review, a retirement announcement was made at the Animal Shelter and additional appropriation is needed for vacation payout. Additional appropriation is also needed for veterinary services and animal feed/supplies. Animal intake at the shelter is 20% higher than it was during the same period last fiscal year and the average daily population is 60-days longer than last year. This results in more animals needing veterinary care and the need to purchase more food and animal supplies. Additional appropriation is also needed to account for donated supplies. These requested appropriations are offset with donation revenue ($58,000) and reallocation of special item appropriation that is already budgeted ($46,240).
