BACKGROUND
The annual project will refresh striping for the various County roads listed in the attached.
County staff established an annual road striping maintenance program to refresh striping that has faded due to a combination of weather and normal traffic wear. Each year, the roads are evaluated, and a priority list is made to refresh those roads that are in the most need of striping to maintain public safety. On December 13, 2022, the Board authorized the creation of the "2023 Road Striping Maintenance" and a budget amendment of $200,000. The funding source was from the SB-1 Non-Operating Special Revenue Fund (Fund 2440, Org 1220052) (SB-1 SRF). The "2023 Road Striping Maintenance Project" was deferred to 2024 to allow staff to prioritize the 2023 Storm Repair projects.
Currently, County staff utilizes water-based traffic paint due to its affordability which allows more roads to be re-striped. When the majority of the roads' striping is in good condition, staff will begin to use thermoplastic striping material which lasts longer than paint and provides improved visibility at night. Due to the higher cost for thermoplastic striping material, fewer roads can be re-striped per year. The striping on the attached list of County roads is faded and needs re-striping.
