RECOMMENDATION
title
Approve and authorize Memorandum of Understanding No. 8704 with Napa County Resource Conservation District and other Members to reestablish a Napa Weed Management Area to support weed control activities and community engagement. (No Fiscal Impact)
body
BACKGROUND
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) No. 8704 will reestablish a Napa Weed Management Area (NWMA) pursuant to California Food and Agricultural Code, Section 7272(b) for the purpose of coordinating and combining their actions and expertise to deal with common weed control problems.
On March 21, 2006, a Weed Management Area (WMA) was originally established to facilitate coordinated invasive pest management throughout the County. Despite strong initial outlines and clearly defined objectives, the group gradually became inactive. Limited member participation and an overall lack of sustained focus contributed to the decline of the WMA.

NWMA will serve as a collaborative framework for local agencies, landowners and community partners to identify priority species, implement strategic management practices, share resources effectively and provide outreach and education to the community.
Members will be able to support public outreach, education and on the ground weed control activities. The NWMA will strengthen community engagement, increase awareness of invasive species impacts, and expand the capacity of Members to carry out targeted monitoring efforts.
