SUBJECT: Resolution Amending the Table and Index of Classes, the Departmental Allocation List for the Public Works Department, and Appropriate Personnel Policies
RECOMMENDATION
title
Adopt a Resolution amending the Table and Index of Classes, the Departmental Allocation List for Public Works, and appropriate personnel policies. (Fiscal Impact: $2,500 Expense; General Fund; Budgeted; Discretionary)
body
BACKGROUND
Human Resources received a reclassification request from an incumbent in an Equipment Mechanic II classification within the Public Works Department. Human Resources conducted a reclassification study and determined that the incumbent is performing duties within the scope of the Senior Equipment Mechanic classification. This action will reclassify the incumbent to the appropriate level of Senior Equipment Mechanic in accordance with the duties being performed. The approximate $2,500 increase in expenses for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year is covered by salary savings.
Additionally, Public Works has requested to change the Public Works Administrative Manager from a Classified Management position to an at-will, Non-Classified (Other) Management position. The position has a newly hired incumbent whose final offer letter noted their employment would be at-will. For consistency across the organization, the Probation Administrative Manager and Sheriff's Administrative Manager classifications, which are both currently filled, will become at-will status Non-Classified (Other) Management once vacated. There is no fiscal impact with these changes.
Requested Action:
Amend the Table and Index of Classes and the Department Allocation List for the Public Works Department by deleting 1.0 FTE Equipment Mechanic II and adding 1.0 FTE Senior Equipment Mechanic, and appropriate personnel policies, effective March 28, 2026.
