EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
County contracted with the firm of Renne Public Law Group to provide specialized legal services concerning juvenile dependency appeals effective May 1, 2021 and amended the Agreement on July 15, 2021 to include litigation services. The County now wishes to increase the maximum compensation from $275,000 per fiscal year to $800,000 per fiscal year to cover the cost of ongoing litigation, in addition to being able to use this firm on an as-needed basis for future cases.

Discretionary Justification:
Renne Public Law Group is able to provide the services requested and has significant expertise in this area of law. Sufficient funding is included in County Counsel's adopted FY23-24 budget to cover the estimated cost of pre-trial litigation services.

Funds will be appropriated in future fiscal years if needed.
Consequences if not approved:
Litigation would be provided by County Counsel staff, reducing their availability to other clients.
