BACKGROUND
The final designs for the Bale Slough - Bear Creek Restoration Project, Groups A-C, were completed in 2022. Construction of the Group A restoration sites was completed in the summer of 2023. The District has been awarded sufficient grant funds from the Wildlife Conservation Board and United States Environmental Protection Agency to implement the next phase of the Project, the Group C restoration sites. Construction of Group C is anticipated to be completed in 2025 with completion of the last restoration Group, Group B, dependent on receiving additional funds.

Restoration actions will include expansion and enhancement of a large wetland feature just upstream Highway 29 through grading and installation of in-stream habitat features, reconnecting Bear Creek to its historic floodplain, increasing habitat diversity within the riparian zone through the management and removal of non-native vegetation and installation and maintenance of native vegetation.
