BACKGROUND
As a general practice, the County Fire Department attempts to fully depreciate vehicles before identifying surplus vehicles. Vehicles that have been fully depreciated may be retained if their maintenance costs and condition warrant continued use. In some instances, some vehicles and equipment are declared surplus and disposed of before they have been fully depreciated because the costs to maintain and/or repair them are not justified.
This request will authorize Capital Asset No. 27219, a 2008 Chevrolet Van, to be declared surplus and sold at public auction. The vehicle has outlived its useful life, has been removed from service, and is no longer required for public use. California Government Code section 25504 provides authorization to the county purchasing agent for the direct sale of surplus personal property. Section 25363 authorizes the Board of Supervisors, upon four-fifths vote, to sell at public auction and convey to the highest bidder for cash, any property belonging to the County and not required for public use.
The County Fire Department intends to use the services of JJ Kane Auctions in Dixon. The proceeds from the sale will be recorded to the Department's Fire Protection Fund.
