body
BACKGROUND
The Napa County Fire Department currently has a thermal imaging camera (Capital Asset No. 27103) that has outlived its useful life and has become outdated. The camera was originally purchased more than 10 years ago. The devise is difficult to maintain due to its age. A thermal imaging camera is a handheld device that allows firefighters to see areas of heat through smoke, darkness, or barriers. This piece of equipment renders infrared radiation that is given off by warm objects or flames, into a visible light representation in real time. The cameras can aid in cases where individuals are trapped in areas first responders cannot locate.
Today’s recommended action will allow the capital asset to be deemed as surplus and no longer required for public use as well as authorize the removal from the County Capital Asset list and be disposed.
