BACKGROUND
Through the Stream Maintenance Program (SMP), the District conducts vegetation, debris and sediment maintenance along channels for the purposes of maintaining hydraulic conveyance and restoring riparian ecosystems. The District maintains 13 miles of engineered or modified channels along District-owned properties and easements. At its discretion, the District may also assist other public and private property owners with stream related issues. Vegetation management techniques include mechanical removal, herbicide treatment, and pruning with hand tools. Maintenance is conducted in accordance with the District’s Stream Maintenance Manual and resource agency permits.
