The Fiscal Year 2026–2027 Recommended Budget includes funding for a Skeeter EV Ford F550 Type 6 Engine. The County Fire Department requests authorization to purchase this apparatus from Golden State Fire Apparatus/Skeeter Emergency Vehicles without securing competitive bids for compatibility and inadequate competition reasons.

The Department has established Skeeter-brand engines as its standard firefighting equipment due to their reliability and lower maintenance costs compared to other manufacturers. Service records show that Skeeter apparatus experience fewer maintenance issues, resulting in reduced outofservice time and lower repair expenses. Standardizing equipment also allows the Department to streamline training for personnel, enhance operational efficiency during emergency incidents, and maintain consistency across maintenance systems, software, and required tools.
