body
BACKGROUND
Last year, the County's Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) entered into an agreement with Winston's CUP to operate a caf? at South Campus after conducting a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Winston's CUP has expertise in implementing, operating, and maintaining a caf?-as well as running a foodservice-based work experience program with an emphasis on individuals with barriers to employment.
Through this agreement, Winston's CUP operates a food service work experience program for individuals who are experiencing barriers to employment, including those who have struggled with homelessness and substance abuse. This partnership provides participants with an introduction to basic safety guidelines and the technical skills needed to work in a food services occupation, as well as earning a food handlers' certificate. Having a caf? located at South Campus provides an opportunity for employees, clients and the public to access healthy and conveniently located meal options. Approval of this amendment will increase the contract maximum in order to bolster the capacity to meet an increased number of clients utilizing the cafe for healthy food options while accessing services at HHSA.
