BACKGROUND
Agreement No. 170908B provides for reimbursement for trapping of the European Grapevine Moth (EGVM) which was first discovered in October 2009 in an eleven-acre Chardonnay vineyard in Oakville. This was the first time that the invasive species was found in North America and the crop of the eleven-acre vineyard was a complete loss due to the damage caused by the pest. In 2010, over 100,000 EGVM were found in monitoring traps and by the end of 2013 the total number of EGVM trapped had decreased to 40. During the post eradication plan, which ended in 2019, the County trapped at a reduced density of 25 traps per square mile. For 2024, California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) is reimbursing the County for trapping rural areas at 25 traps per square mile (with a reduction in low-risk areas).
This agreement is coming late to the Board due to delays in Federal funding.
Requested Action:
1. Approve and authorize Agreement No. 170908B with the California Department of Food & Agriculture for a maximum of $287,031 for reimbursement of expenditures associated with placing and inspecting traps for the detection of EGVM.
