RECOMMENDATION

title

Approve a Budget Amendment to increase Maintenance Building & Improvements appropriation by $60,000 in the Property Management Maintenance subdivision offset by use of Appropriation for Contingency for the repair of equipment in the Administration Building ITS Cold Room. (Fiscal Impact: $60,000 Expense; Property Management Fund; Not Budgeted; Discretionary)

body

BACKGROUND

Public Works’ Property Management division requires a budget amendment to increase appropriation for Maintenance Building & Improvements by $60,000 to pay for a necessary repair of a cooling unit in the ITS network cold room, located in the basement of the Administration Building. The increase in appropriation will be offset by use of Appropriation for Contingency from the Property Management Fund. The repair needs to be completed in advance of summer weather to ensure proper temperatures are maintained in the equipment room. There are two cooling units, and both are at the end of their useful life, but full replacement is not feasible at this time because of the long lead time to obtain replacement units. Replacement of two coils within the unit that is currently malfunctioning will meet existing needs and it is anticipated that the repair will extend the life of the unit by several years. This is an essential unit, and the repair must be done as soon as possible. Replacement of both units will be programmed for the future.
