SUBJECT: Adoption of a Resolution Amending the Table and Index of Classifications and the Departmental Allocation List for Public Defender
RECOMMENDATION
title
Adopt a Resolution to amend the Departmental Allocation List for the Public Defender’s Office effective October 26, 2024, with no increase to full-time equivalents. (Fiscal Impact: $5,000 Expense; General Fund; Budgeted; Discretionary)
body
BACKGROUND
Over time, the duties performed by the Legal Office Manager in the Public Defender’s Office have become more time-consuming with new programs implemented for budget and financials, which has stretched the Legal Office Manager’s availability for supervision of their direct staff. To address the need, a full-time Supervising Legal Secretary position is being requested. The Supervising Legal Secretary will provide direct supervision to three full-time Legal Secretaries, as well as assist in the everyday administrative duties associated with the Public Defender’s Office.
This request will add a Supervising Legal Secretary allocation and delete a Legal Secretary II allocation. Although there is a nominal cost associated with this request, the Public Defender’s Office has salary savings due to attorney retirements.
Requested Actions:
Adopt a Resolution to amend the Departmental Allocation List for the Public Defender’s Office by adding a 1.0 FTE Supervising Legal Secretary, effective October 26, 2024, and deleting a 1.0 FTE Legal Secretary II to be determined upon a subsequent vacancy after recruitment.
