BACKGROUND

In accordance with Board Resolution No. 2025-80 and the Procedure for the Acceptance and Disbursement of Donations, this agenda item has been prepared to accept a bequest in the amount of $125,000 from the John J. Vera and Antonette M. Vera Revocable Trust, to send a letter of appreciation to the Trustee, and to delegate authority to the Director of Public Works to sign any additional required documents to accept the bequest, such as a trust distribution receipt.

The $125,000 bequest distribution will be sent via check via certified mail. Once received it will be deposited into the Animal Shelter Operations Division to support spay/neuter vouchers and other Animal Shelter programming or capital projects. No goods or services were provided in exchange for this bequest.

Requested Actions:
1. Accept a bequest in the amount of $125,000 from the John J. Vera and Antonette M. Vera Revocable Trust;
2. Authorize the Chair to sign a letter of appreciation; and
3. Delegate authority to the Director of Public Works to sign any additional required documentation to accept the bequest.

Acceptance of the bequest will benefit the Animal Shelter and the community it serves.

No known future impact.

Consequences if not approved:

If the bequest is not accepted, the Animal Shelter will not benefit from the funds as intended by the Trust.
