body

BACKGROUND

The Juvenile Hall’s portable radios and associated accessories are over 10 years old and will no longer be serviced by the vendor. The equipment is outdated and is in need of replacement.

Portable radios are used by Juvenile Hall staff to facilitate quick and reliable communication among staff enabling them to coordinate actions, respond to emergencies, maintain situational awareness and ensure secure operation of the institution. The purchase price includes high-capacity batteries to last up to 27 hours; multi-cradle chargers; belt clips; and earpieces. Each staff is issued a radio.

The Department conducted research and worked with Communications in the selection of TAIT TP9600 Portable Radios. The vendor is approved on the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NAPSO) list allowing a waiver of competitive bidding and sole source.

Requested Action:

1. Approve purchase for 26 Tait Portable Radios and associated accessories; and

2. Approve a budget amendment to Increase Services and Supplies by $70,700 offset by available fund balance (Fund 3000, Sub-Div 3000503, Project 23016, Account 52800).
