body

BACKGROUND

The Fire Operations and Fire Marshal Office is currently located on the second floor of the Hall of Justice (HOJ).  On December 5, 2023, the Board of Supervisors approved a request for Fire to enter a lease allowing Fire Operations and the Fire Marshal’s office to relocate to 951 California Boulevard in Napa.  The new location will provide customer access, enhance customer service, and maintain adjacency to other county departments.

Today’s action will allow the purchase of office furniture for the relocation of the Napa County Fire Department Operations and Fire Marshal Office.  The current office is utilizing cubicles that will not meet the dimensions of the new facility.  Staff has consulted with county surplus, and they are unable to meet the needs of the current office furniture request to outfit 12 staff members.

Requested Actions:
1.  Authorize the purchase of office furniture for the office relocation of the Fire Operations and Fire Marshal Office; and
2.  Approval of a Budget Amendment increasing appropriations in Fire Ops Transfer Out (2100000-57900) $35,000, offset by a decrease in Fire Ops Special Dept Expense (2100000-53600) to be transferred to Fire Marshal Transfer In (2100001-49900) $35,000, and to increase in Fire Marshal Office Furniture (2100001-53105) $35,000.  Increase Fire Ops Office Furniture (2100000-53105) $10,000 offset by a decrease in Fire Ops Special Dept Exp (2100000-53600) $10,000.

FISCAL & STRATEGIC PLAN IMPACT

Is there a Fiscal Impact?

Yes

Is it currently budgeted?

No

Is it Mandatory or Discretionary?

Discretionary

Discretionary Justification:

Furniture currently used includes cubicles that do not fit in the layout of the new office location.  Currently, County surplus does not have enough stock to support the need requested.

Is the general fund affected?

No

Future fiscal impact:

No future fiscal impact.

Consequences if not approved:

The Fire Department would need to come up with a plan to use the limited options at County surplus to piece-meal office furniture (desks, chairs, file cabinets) for its staff.
