BACKGROUND
The Napa County Behavioral Health Board is comprised of sixteen members from diverse backgrounds. The Behavioral Health Board includes Supervisor Gregory, family members of people experiencing mental illness, concerned citizens, and consumers of behavioral health services. The Behavioral Health Board members participate in fifteen committees and workgroups within Napa County that are focused on critical key areas of behavioral health services, including, among others, the Data Notebook Workgroup, County Suicide Prevention Council, Stakeholders Advisory Committee, Live Healthy Napa County, and Veterans Commission. The purpose of the Behavioral Health Board is to support the County in the provision of high-quality behavioral health services and programs across Napa County.
A key accomplishment in FY 2023-2024 was the transition from having a separate Mental Health Board (MHB) and Advisory Board on Drugs and Alcohol (ABAD) to becoming a Behavioral Health Board encompassing both areas. Consolidating the boards mirrors the merger of the two divisions in the Health and Human Services Agency, acknowledging that many of our residents have co-occurring disorders and focusing on a more holistic approach to treatment. With this change, five members of ABAD joined eleven members of the MHB on the Behavioral Health Board. Overall, this was a rebuilding year in terms of membership, with a total of 10 new members joining the board during the fiscal year.
In FY 2023-2024, the Behavioral Health Board’s focus was on meeting goals and objectives developed by the Behavioral Health Board’s Executive Committee. The two objectives were supported by nine goals. In total, all goals were either fully or partially met ensuring the Behavioral Health Board met targets for accomplishment. Health and Human Services Agency’s (HHSA) Behavioral Health Division provides monthly updates on operations, program planning, contract negotiations, and stakeholder engagement to enhance collaboration and communication across the community and allow for feedback for services. HHSA is grateful for the valuable service of the Behavioral Health Board, which shines in the FY 2023-2024 Annual Report.
