BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The Sheriff’s Office body worn camera (BWC) program has been operational since May of 2016. BWCs have shown to increase public trust through transparency, improve evidence collection and increase law enforcement safety. Axon Enterprise, Inc. currently provides BWCs for Sheriff’s Office staff to collect video and audio evidence, providing a level of transparency in the delivery of law enforcement services. The recording platform is supported by a cloud-based storage system, which is included in the current Axon agreement. In addition to BWC storage, Axon cloud storage also stores our third party and external evidence items, significantly reducing costs of overall storage platforms.
On December 15, 2020, the Board approved Amendment No. 1 to Axon Agreement No. 210016B to add interview room equipment and an additional 23 BWCs for use by extra help staff (court bailiffs and transportation deputies), Animal Services Officers and Administration sworn staff. To ensure BWC program continuity, 10 additional cameras are requested to serve as backup to cameras that require service or repair.
Today’s requested action would amend the agreement to increase compensation over the remaining three-year term by $25,813.57 for a new maximum of $1,782,517.59 to provide 10 additional BWCs and applicable licensing.
