Plastic is formed using fossil fuels by chemically bonding oil and gas molecules together. Recycling plastics will not halt the use of fossil fuels, but it can reduce the need to make new plastic materials. Recycling reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills with finite space. environmental contamination of plastics and hazardous and non-hazardous materials into ecosystems. Proper recycling practices can also play a critical role in reducing the amounts of plastic and hazardous and non-hazardous waste contamination that pollutes land and water ecosystems. While the process of recycling is a tool to improve environmental and climate solutions, it's important to remember a few key points about waste reduction and recycling:

* Prevention is the only real answer: For plastics (and all waste for that matter), the "reduce" part of he "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" mantra is really the best and most sustainable solution. Recycling is not a magic bullet and nationwide, only 5-6% of plastic is recycled each year.
* Plastics never really go away: As pointed out in the video, unlike organic-derived materials like paper, plastics never...
